Commercial Landlords

From 6th April 2014, commercial landlords trying to recover rent arrears will no longer be able to rely on the right of ‘distress for rent.’ This right allowed landlords to enter a premises and take a defaulting tenant’s belongings without going to court or telling the tenant.

It will be replaced by Commercial Rent Arrears Recovery, a statutory procedure which gives commercial tenants more protection, restricting the actions that a landlord can take.
